Unearth your story.

  • Identifying Your Story

Sometimes the best way to revise your manuscript is to break it down to its most basic component: the story at its very center. As a developmental editor, I will work to unearth the story at the core of your book and make it shine.

  • Polishing Your Story

Once we’ve found the core of your story, I will provide actional feedback for revisions based on plot, character arcs, relationships, world building, interiority, and more. My goal is to help you tell your story, in your voice, in the most effective way possible.

FAQs

  • A manuscript evaluation consists only of an edit letter covering plot, characters, world building, pacing, and relationships within the story. A developmental edit dives deeper into the story and includes notes throughout the manuscript itself for a more thorough edit with actionable feedback on each chapter.

  • Ideally, you would receive a developmental edit after revising your first or second draft of your manuscript. This may come before or after your beta readers.

  • Developmental edits focus on big-picture issues, so they will NOT include edits on grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Although if I see some frequent issues, I may point them out.

  • The short answer: It depends. The long answer: when you sign with an agent, they may help you developmentally edit your novel before sending it to editors. If picked up by an editor, you will go through more revisions with them. However, if you're struggling with the first step of getting an agent, your manuscript may have bigger issues that could be helped with a developmental edit.
